The Lamar High School Concert Band, under the direction of Bob Seay, and the Lamar Middle School Band, directed by Greg Ludwig, scored “Superior” ratings at the CHSAA Band Festival held in Lamar on April 17.
A superior rating, also known as “straight ones” because of the scoring system that is used, is the highest possible rating. In all, four middle school bands and six high school bands performed at the festival hosted in Lamar. Similar festivals were held across Colorado throughout the month of April. Lamar High School and Lamar Middle School were the only bands at the Lamar Festival to earn Superior scores from all three judges in the prepared performance portion of the event. The Lamar High School Band also scored a “Superior” rating in sight reading, in which bands are judged while performing a new piece of music they have not seen before the event.
Mr. Seay and Mr. Ludwig are very proud of the accomplishments of their students and their bands. “The Middle School Band is always great”, said Seay. “And anyone who has been to a basketball game knows that the Super Savage Sound System is the best band in Southern Colorado,” said Seay. “This just makes it official.”
