Registration open for annual Girls in the Middle conference

Conference to be held Saturday, March 2

(Lamar, Colorado; February 22, 2019) The 11th Annual Girls in the Middle will be held this Saturday, March 2, at Lamar Community College.  Registration is now open for this one-day career exploration conference for area fifth through eighth grade girls.

This year, Girls in the Middle attendees will channel the spirit of Rosie the Riveter in the theme “I can do it!” They will learn about historic figures who paved the way for modern women with their determination, hard work, and strong belief that women can do anything.

The conference will feature a keynote session entitled, “We can do it… if we put our mind to it,” featuring these historical figures and helping attendees learn to leverage a growth mindset to accomplish anything they set their mind to.

Girls in the Middle aims to introduce middle school girls to a wide range of career opportunities and encourage them to continue studying math, science, and technology as they continue their education.  The conference includes opportunities for attendees to interact with women working in a wide variety of professions and to explore those professions through hands-on activities.

This year will highlight careers in anthropology, chiropractic medicine, engineering, law enforcement, architecture, media and broadcasting, healthcare, and domestic safety.

Registration for Girls in the Middle is now open available online at

Students interested in attending the conference are encouraged to register as soon as possible.  The fee to attend the conference, which includes lunch and a t-shirt, is $5 for those who register online before the event and $7 at the door.
