Pike Tower Vandalism

Lamar Mayor Roger Stagner brought to the Lamar City Council’s attention, a recent act of vandalism that was done to the Pike’s Tower at the south end of Willow Creek Park. His remarks were made during the Lamar City Council’s meeting on Monday, July 24th.
Stagner noted that someone or some persons had knocked over and broke apart the northern lower rock wall that borders the north and south edges of the tower. The mayor said there is absolutely no reason for that action and added, “I urge the community, please call the police and let them know,” if anyone witnesses any type of action in the city. Pike’s Tower was constructed by the WPA in the early 1930s to mark the passage of frontier explorer Zebulon Pike through Lamar and Prowers County in the early 1800s.
The Local Tip Line is 719-336-1435 for the Lamar Police Department or the Prowers County Sheriff’s Office. All calls are anonymous.
