Early City Sales Tax Revenue Stays Slow

The City of Lamar has seen slow returns on sales tax revenues since the beginning of the year. February Sales and Use Tax collected in March is down 2.25% from the previous year, showing a decrease of $5,305.36 from the year before. Total collections are also off 1.49%. Collections for 2017 are $258,419 compared to 2016 at $262,332 for a difference of $3,913.
Total Sales and Use Tax collections, Year to Date through March, are off 4.35% for a drop of $41,468 from the previous year. Collections for 2016 were $954,281 compared to 2017 at $912,813.
Sales tax revenue for the 12 retail categories and services collected through March of this year indicate a decrease for almost every category.
