A Memorial Service for lifetime Lamar resident and high school educator, Dixie M. Munro will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Lamar United Methodist Church with Mike Woelk, Reverend Kathy Leathers and Reverend Barbara Johns-Schleicher officiating.
Mrs. Munro’s ashes have been buried next to her parents at Fairmount Cemetery.
Dixie was born on July 2, 1917, at Lamar, Colorado to Robert John and Pauline (Lytle) McGrath and passed away at Lamar Estates on December 6, 2016, at the age of 99.
She is survived by her children Mary (William) Leiner of Evanston, IL, James A. Munro of Los Angeles, CA, and Polly Munro of Lamar. Also surviving are her grandchildren Dunham, Emily, and James Leiner; her sister-in-law Maggi McGrath of Aurora, CO as well as niece Shannon Grina, nephew Dr. Kelly McGrath and her grandnephews David Grina, Brian Grina, and Matthew McGrath. Dixie is also survived by many friends and her many, many students that she taught throughout her years as a high school English teacher.
She is preceded by her parents, by her brothers John Lane McGrath and Spencer McGrath.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lamar Area Hospice or to the Prowers County Historical Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
