Country Nights – Carnival Lights for Sand and Sage, 2016

Some recent rains have moderated summer temperatures this year, helping increase attendance for this year’s Sand and Sage Fair and Rodeo.
Plenty of youngsters packed the fairgrounds this past Wednesday for Kid’s Day which featured free games and amusements for parents and kids of all ages.
Folks have turned out for the Sun Valley Rides from the carnival which will be in operation through the rest of the week. While people are preparing for the traditional parade which gets underway down Main Street this Saturday, August 13th, hopefully when the day’s high temperatures are predicted to reach only into the mid 80s.
Rainy weather didn’t dampen music or beer enthusiasts from attending the Kick-Off Concert at the Prowers County Fairgrounds this past Saturday, or the bull-riding events the preceding night on August 5th.
The usual summer storm on Saturday announced its arrival with thunder, lightning and some sprinkles which increased into a steady downpour in the early hour, but the harder it rained, the more people came in under the beer tent and settled in until the 8pm concert hour.
By then the rain had moved on, allowing concert goers to enjoy the music of Alexandra Demetree, followed by this year’s main attraction, Casey Donahew and Band.
The PRCA Rodeo and BBQ is set for this Friday and Saturday, as well as the 7:15pm Parade of Champions in the arena on Saturday. Other highlights include the Tiny Toy Showmanship Contest, Calf Riding and the Fair Appreciation Award on Saturday night.
