Members of the Prowers County Lodging Panel approved one request for marketing funds during their May 17th meeting and tabled three others for future discussion.
The 3rd annual Cowboy Up at the Wagons event, held at the End of the Line Arena in Camp Amache in Granada, was granted the $3,000 request to cover advertising and contract fees. The presentation had been made earlier in the year, but action was taken Tuesday pending funding availabilities by the Panel.
The two day event, set for June 18-19 this year, will feature various aspects of cowboy competition and in the past has featured events such as working cattle, show horses, best remuda judging and will also feature campsites and Dutch oven cooking. This year a Cowboy Collectible Show and Sale and a Fiddler’s contest have been included.
Sip and Savor, a fundraising program that will feature Americana cooking and instruction had their funding request put off for another month and the annual LCC Antelope Stampede and the Lamar Fly-in were also postponed as both these events will occur in the early fall. Each carries a significant funding request with $10,000 from the Fly-in show set for September 24th at the Lamar Municipal Airport and the Stampede, scheduled for late September and early October has a $9,700 request. The next meeting for the Lodging Tax Panel will be Tuesday, June 21st at 4pm at the PCDI offices.
