Mary Lynn Gallegos, affectionately known as Lynn, passed away on June 27, 2026, at Sharp Grossmont
Hospital in La Mesa, California, at the age of 84. Lynn was born on March 16, 1942, in Las Animas, Colorado, to Jack and Lucille (Husted) Baublits. She spent her life devoted to her family, her community, and the many friendships she cultivated along the way.
As a proud Navy wife, Lynn raised her three children while moving throughout the United States,
embracing each new chapter with grace and resilience. Following her retirement, she made her home in
Santee, California, where she became an active and beloved member of her community. Lynn’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She cherished every moment with her family and took immense pride in the generations that followed her.
A dedicated volunteer, Lynn gave generously of her time to the Friends of Santee Library bookstore and
faithfully served as a board member of the Stitching Sisters Quilt Guild in La Mesa, California. Her
compassionate spirit extended beyond organized service, as she often volunteered to drive friends and
neighbors to appointments when they were unable to do so themselves. Her kindness and willingness to
help others left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Lynn had a deep appreciation for old Westerns, especially the films of John Wayne, and she also loved
musicals. An avid reader throughout her life, she found continued enjoyment in books through audiobooks in her later years.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Zachry; her sons, Lawrence Keays and Michael Keays; five
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many other relatives; and a host of dear friends who will
cherish her memory. Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lucille Baublits, and by her first husband, Patrick Keays.
