Jamie Callaway announces candidacy for Prowers County Coroner

Hi I am Jamie Callaway and I am seeking to be the next Prowers County Coroner. I have been a funeral Director and embalmer for the past 14 years, serving families with respect, dignity and transparency.

I am a Colorado native, who graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, with a bachelor of science in agriculture business. During my college experience, I was involved with the Colligate Cattlewomens Association at CSU. Most of my experience was in beef education, teaching elementary school children.

I hold Colorado Funeral Director license, and a former member of the Colorado Funeral Director’s Association. I apprenticed inside a funeral home where I gained experience meeting with families, embalming and preparing, operating the crematory, planning services and final dispositions. I have worked closely with government agencies such as national cemeteries, El Paso County Sheriffs Office and 4th judicial district with victim advocates and other coroner offices for example El Paso, Teller, Fremont, Custer and Pueblo. I have built partnerships and strong working relationships with not only the families I have served but with the other funeral homes, hospitals, Doctors, most importantly, the community relationships. I have built these relationships through honesty, respect, compassion, and caring.

After COVID, I was employed also by Colorado Department of Corrections. I was hired to be the assistant to the Chief Medical Officer at headquarters in Colorado Springs. I then moved to a facility in Canon City, where I worked intake/release and housing custody.
