Granada Schools announce upcoming school schedule

Prowers County RE-1, Granada Schools has announced the opening of school for the 2024-2025 school year on Monday, August 12.  This will be a full day of school with lunch served.  Classes will convene at 7:50 a.m. and dismiss at 4:00 p.m.   The final day of school will be Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Granada Schools will continue to be on a 4-day week (Monday-Thursday) for the 2024-2025 school year.  Calendars will be available online at www.granadaschools.org, in the student handbook, or in the office.

The calendar will consist of 144.5 contact days and 154.5 contract days for the upcoming school year.  Holidays, Half Days, and Days Off include: September 2 (Labor Day), September 19 (P/T Conference), November 27, 28 (Thanksgiving Break), December 19-January 6 (Christmas Vacation), February 6 – P/T Conferences), March 17-21(Spring Break).

Prowers RE-1 School Board Policy states that a child must be 5 years old by July 15th to begin Kindergarten.  Three year olds, who plan on attending pre-school, must have reached that age by June 1st.  Pre-school registration will be on July 31 and August 1 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.  Granada Schools is offering full day pre-school for 3 and 4 year olds, as well as ½ day preschool for both age levels.  Please call the school at 719-734-5492 to get your child on the list and list your preference.

All junior high and high school students are reminded that their physical exams must be on file in the office of the Superintendent before participation in extra-curricular activities will be allowed. Students may call the High Plains Community Health Center (336-0261) or your primary physician to set up an appointment.  Please call High Plains Community Health Center for dates and times of physicals.   Granada Schools will have a mandatory parent/athlete meeting on July 31 at 6:00 p.m. to sign all athletic participation forms and answer questions. Athletic Policies are available on the school website at www.granadaschools.org, in the school office, and at businesses in Granada.  Parent and athlete must attend the meeting and sign the Athletic Policy, Catastrophic Accident Form, and Medical Authorization Form and turn in a current physical prior to beginning practice.

Returning students in grades 11 and 12 will register for classes on July 31 from 9:00-12:00 a.m. and 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sophomores and Freshmen will register on August 1 during the same hours. Students in 7th and 8th grade do not need to register for classes before school begins, but may complete other paperwork on the same dates.  Registration will also be available online on the school website at www.granadaschools.org.

Open Enrollment for new students and returning students to complete paperwork will be July 31 and August 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Parents/Guardians of new students will need to bring a copy of their students’ birth certificate, social security card, and immunization record.   

Kindergarten and Pre-School Round-up- We are asking parents of Kindergarten and Pre-school students to call the school at 734-5492 and let us know your student is attending this year.  This information will be used for planning purposes.

Students who are riding a bus need to contact their route driver or the school to find out approximate pick-up times.
