PATS Serves as New Year’s Designated Driver for 2019

SOS & PATS Center,

108 area residents made use of the Prowers Area Transit (PATS) services this past New Year’s Eve, according to Darren Glover, PATS Operations Director for the 20 year old transportation facility serving Prowers County and Lamar.

“The numbers were off a little this year, probably due to the extreme cold temperatures and the snowfall that developed through the evening. It probably accounted for the decline in past numbers,” he explained.  A quick check of records showed that the 108 wasn’t that far off the mark as 150 riders used the service in 2012.

It’s a free service, annually underwritten by local donors who contribute about $500 to provide for the service that runs from 7pm on New Year’s Eve until 2am the following morning. Users will often leave a few dollars in the ‘tip’ jar at the end of their journey, a good return on investment when you consider the costs involved with a DUI from the local police departments which are on patrol through that evening.
