Helen L. Smith…June 15, 1930 – December 19, 2018

Funeral Services for Helen Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Parkview Baptist Church in Las Animas, CO with Pastor Nathan Gumke officiating. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the McClave Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas.

Helen L. Smith was born on June 15, 1930 in Las Animas, CO to Harlen “Efton” and Jennie Irene (Moore) Lockhart. She passed away on December 19, 2018 at Hallmark Nursing Center in Denver, CO at the age of 88.

Helen loved to do counted cross-stitch and read. Most of all, she loved having her grandkids for the summer.  Helen was well known by her family and friends as a great candy maker.  She worked at Fort Lyon for 27 years and was a member of TOPS for 40 years.  Helen was a member of the Dunkard Brother Church in Hasty for many years.

Helen is survived by her children, Gordon (Santa) Smith of CA, James (Maria) Smith of CO, Don (Lynette) Smith of SD, Kenny (Sung) Smith of CO, and Jeanine Medina of CO; 17 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Efton and Jennie Lockhart; husband, Orvis A, Smith; daughter, Melody Sue Smith; grandson, Matthew Kyle Medina; and sister, Lois Stiles.
