CSP Investigates Two Vehicle Fatal Crash in Prowers County

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on County Road SS, Wednesday, September 26th, 2018 at approximately 1739 hours (5:39pm). The crash was approximately three miles east of Wiley.
91 year old Thomas Gilbert of Lamar, Colorado was driving a 1980 John Deere tractor eastbound on Prowers County Road SS. Gilbert turned left in front of an oncoming Chevrolet S10 pickup driven by 62 year old Monty Walls of Wiley, Colorado. The Chevrolet went off the south side of the road and into a ditch. Monty Walls was pronounced deceased on scene by the Prowers County Deputy Coroner. Thomas Gilbert did not sustain any injuries.
At this time, alcohol and excessive speed do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash. Charges are pending for Mr. Gilbert as the crash is still under investigation.
