A Memorial Service for William “Bill” Lutz will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Las Animas, CO with Pastor Mark Cloer officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
William Henry Lutz, known to most as Bill, was born on December 3, 1940 in Kellerton, IA to Boyd and Veva (Coverdell) Lutz. He passed away on April 25, 2018 in Las Animas, CO at the age of 77.
Bill moved to Las Animas in August 1945 and attended the Las Animas Schools, graduating in 1960. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Brandon on June 19, 1960. This union was blessed with two children, Curt and Scott. Bill worked for Cliff’s market until enlisting in the Air Force in January of 1961. He was honorably discharged in February 1982 after serving his country for 21 years. Bill owned and operated the Troll Haus Restaurant and WeeBee Catering, served as Bent County Veterans Service Officer, sat on the City Council, Chamber of Commerce, was elected Mayor, and was an active member of the Methodist Church.
He was survived by his wife Phyllis Lutz of Las Animas, CO; sons, Curt (Michelle) Lutz of Dodge City, KS, Scott (Kim) Lutz of Federal Heights, CO, Gene (Carolyn) Lutz of Canon City, CO; 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
Bill is preceded in death by sisters, Georgia Lee, Naomi, Shirley, Mabel; brothers, Ed, Tommy, Bob, and Jim; and grandson, Jonathan Lutz.
