The Prowers County Republican Assembly was held Tuesday, March 20, at the Lamar Community Building gymnasium to select delegates to vote on the candidates running for open positions in Prowers County.
The only contested position was for County Treasurer between Judy Wittman and Kayla Koehn. In order to go on the June 26th primary ballot, a candidate needed to receive a minimum of 30% of the voters who attended the Tuesday evening assembly. Both candidates achieved that level. Prowers County GOP Party Chairman, Janet Marriott, told The Prowers Journal Wittman received 68% of the vote and Koehn received 32%.
If a candidate received less than 30% but more than 10% they had the option to petition their name onto the primary ballot, a point made moot by their respective numbers.
Candidates who have announced their intention to run to this point and are unopposed are:
County Assessor – Andrew B. Wyatt
County Clerk & Recorder – Jana Coen
County Commissioner – Ron Cook
County Sheriff – Sam Zordel
The Prowers County Democrats held their County Assembly to elect delegates for the CD4 Assembly which will be held on Friday, April 13 and the State Assembly, to be held on Saturday, April 14.
