CSP Investigating Bent County Highway Fatality

The Colorado State Patrol investigated a two vehicle crash involving one fatal injury, which occurred on Bent County Road 32 and Bent County Road NN, approximately three miles north of McClave, CO.

On Sunday morning, October 8, 2017 at approximately 6:25am, a 1991 Ford Ranger was traveling northbound on Bent County Road 32. A 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on Bent County Road NN, when it entered the intersection and collided its left front with the right front of the Ford Ranger. After impact, The Ford Ranger was pushed onto County Road NN and began to rotate counter-clockwise, where it rolled ¼ time coming to rest on its right side facing east. The Chevrolet Silverado continued westbound, going off the right side of the road and coming to a control stop in an open field facing northwest.

The Ford’s driver, 69-year-old Ricard Cruz Jimenez of McClave, CO, was unrestrained at the time of the crash. Mr. Jimenez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Bent County Coroner.

The Chevrolet’s driver, 53-year-old Bradford Owens of McClave, CO, was unrestrained at the time of the crash. Mr. Owens did not sustained any injuries related to the crash.

Drugs and alcohol are not being considered a contributing factor. At this time the primary cause
of the crash is being investigated as failing to yield right of way.
