Lamar Library Hosts Welcome for New Librarian

Sue Lathrop

Sue Lathrop brings twenty years’ experience to her new post as the Lamar Librarian. A welcoming reception was held this past Friday at the library in the Lamar City Complex.

Lathrop has moved with her family to Lamar from Clear Creek County, near Denver, so she has an immediate familiarity with the state and her new locale. After 20 years in one location, she decided it was time to seek a new challenge.  “I wanted something new and a nice place for my kids to grow up and I found Lamar.”  She said the Lamar Library is somewhat larger than her previous experience, but she was working out of two facilities in Clear Creek instead of one, under one roof.

She added she’s looking forward to working more on the library and book aspect of her new position instead of the business side as she had encountered under a library district. Lathrop said her family is adjusting to the new community and wants to stress that aspect.  “The Lamar Library aligns very much with what I think we should be doing.  Libraries ought to be a part of their community, not just a building where people come to.  It should be doing things to make the community better and I’m happy to see that’s what Lamar is trying to do,” she explained.
