John “Johnny” DuVall, 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Granada, Colorado, on June 8, 2026,
surrounded by his loving family. Johnny was born on October 17, 1948, in Lamar, Colorado, to Curtis and Louise (Rice) DuVall. Raised on the family ranch, he developed a lifelong love for the land, livestock, and the agricultural way of life. He graduated from Granada High School with the Class of 1966 and attended Lamar Community College before returning home to pursue his passion for farming and ranching. In 1967, he earned the prestigious American Farmer FFA Degree.
In 1969, Johnny married the love of his life, Myrna Martin. Soon afterward, he joined the Army National
Guard, where he proudly served for six years. Together, Johnny and Myrna built a life centered on faith,
family, and hard work. As he raised his family, Johnny continued to grow and strengthen the DuVall family ranch, carrying forward his parents’ legacy while creating one of his own through dedication, resilience, and strong values. Following the devastating tornado that destroyed their ranch home in 2023, Johnny and Myrna relocated to Granada, where they continued to enjoy the friendship and support of their community.
A devoted rancher, Johnny took great pride in raising horses, registered cattle, and his trusted working cattle dogs. He found joy in caring for his livestock, working the land, and spending time outdoors. Throughout his life, he remained deeply connected to the agricultural heritage of southeastern Colorado. He was also an avid baseball fan who cherished any opportunity to watch a Colorado Rockies game.
Service to his community was one of Johnny’s greatest passions. He served on the Granada School Board for 24 years, helping shape the future of local education. As a dedicated 4-H leader, he mentored countlessyoung people and encouraged their growth and success. Johnny also served on the Prowers County Fair Board from 1972 to 1983, supporting an event that celebrated the values and traditions he held dear. He was raised in the Methodist Church and was a proud member of the Granada Masonic Lodge No. 72, where he recently received recognition for 50 years of membership.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Myrna DuVall of the family home; his children, Brian (Angie) DuVall of Pueblo West, Colorado, and their children, Zach, Treg, and Taicee; Cody (Joette) DuVall of Granada, Colorado, and their children, Trail, Tripp, and Tryleigh; and Farah DuVall of Lamar, Colorado.
