Three Die in Early Morning Baca County Crash


The Colorado State Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash involving three fatalities. The crash occurred on Colorado 287 approximately five miles north of Campo.  On Wednesday morning, at approximately 2:23am, a semi tractor-trailer was southbound on Hwy 287 when it traveled into the northbound lane colliding head-on with a northbound semi-tractor flatbed trailer.

After the collision, the southbound semi came to rest in the northbound lane facing south. The northbound semi ran off the east side of the road and came to rest in a ditch facing southeast. A third semi that was traveling northbound ran off the east side of the road to avoid the crash and struck a barbed wire fence and come to rest facing north.

The road was closed pending an investigation and clean up. Traffic was routed around the crash site on county roads.  The crash is still under investigation at this time and the three deceased have not been identified.
