For those who remember the original “Grand Slam” breakfast or who simply long to again have a local restaurant that is open 24 hours, your wish has come true. Denny’s restaurant in Lamar will open its doors on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 9 am. The only 24/7 restaurant in southeast Colorado, Denny’s will serve its famous breakfasts but also has extensive menus for lunch and dinner.

Doug Thrall, owner of the new restaurant, was kind enough to spend some time with me in the middle of a very busy week of final touches and staff training to give me a tour of the building and talk about what people can expect when they visit. Denny’s is located at 805 N. Main Street where Burger King used to be. A complete interior and exterior remodel have been under way for several months, as many changes have been made to the building. The interior is bright, clean and well laid out. A marquee-type lighted sign spelling out “Lamar” adorns one wall and is visible from the front door. A vestibule was added to the north of the building both to keep the cold wind out in winter and to provide room for anyone waiting for a table.

The building’s former outdoor patio on the east side has been enclosed to provide space for regular seating but it can also be reserved for birthday parties, business meetings, ball teams, etc. as the tables and chairs in that area can be rearranged as needed. There are roller shades on the windows shared with the restaurant which can be lowered to offer more privacy for those occasions, as well as a direct entrance to the room from the parking lot, saving those guests from having to walk through the main dining room. The restaurant boasts a six-channel sound system which is customizable, allowing those private parties to be quiet if needed. The total capacity of the restaurant is 130 and will employ around 50 people, Thrall said, with 30 of those being full-time employees. Shawnarae Falconburg will serve as the restaurant’s General Manager, with Bobby Bastian and Ryan Barnes serving as Assistant Managers.
