Janice Elaine Keenan…August 14, 1933 – January 1, 2017

Funeral Services for Janice Keenan will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Las Animas, Colorado. Reverend Charles Kelley will officiate. Interment will follow at the Bent/Las Animas Cemetery in Las Animas, Colorado.

Janice Elaine Keenan was born on August 14, 1933 in Las Animas, Colorado to Herschel M. and Elizabeth E. (Jones) Braly in Las Animas, Colorado and passed away on January 1, 2017 in Pueblo, Colorado at the age of 83.

Janice attended Lone Cedar School and graduated from Bent County High School in 1951. She earned her Associate’s degree from Otero Junior College. Janice possessed an extremely strong work ethic, wearing many hats throughout the years. She worked at Butler’s in La Junta, Colorado, Gamble’s Department Store, which she later purchased and ran until its closing, the Troll House on weekends, and part-time at Stough’s Flower Shop. Lastly, Janice went to work for the Bent County Government, first as bookkeeper and later became the Human Resources Director at the Bent County Courthouse. She held this position up until the time of her passing. Janice was very active in the cattle business and the family ranch all her life. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation (BPW), and the Colorado Cattleman’s Association. Janice’s most loved hats, were that of mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful lady and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Janice is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Keith) Garcia of Las Animas, Colorado; sister, Virgie (Tom) Robb, also of Las Animas, Colorado; and grandchildren, Tiana and Mitch Garcia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel and Elizabeth (Jones) Braly.
