Funeral services for Virgil F. Nevland will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 27, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Las Animas, Colorado. Pastor Charles Harder will officiate. Military Rites will be provided by VFW Post #2411 and American Legion District #1 Post #6. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Lyon National Cemetery in Las Animas, Colorado.
Virgil Fred Nevland was born on May 31, 1947 in Carrington, North Dakota to Fred and Helen D. (Harding) Nevland and passed away on December 17, 2016 in Las Animas, Colorado at the age of 69.
Virgil graduated from High School in 1965. He joined the United States Army in November 1968 and spent one year fighting for our country in Vietnam. He was discharged in July 1970. Virgil obtained his Associates Degree from the Center for Degree’s Study. He was a member of American Legion District #1 Post #6 and the VFW Post #2411, and was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
Virgil is survived by his children, Heather (Steven) Gallegos of Las Animas, Colorado, Douglas Nevland also of Las Animas, Colorado, Kimberly Nevland of Fowler, Colorado, Alicia (Manuel) Torrez of McClave, Colorado, Tiffany Nevland of Las Animas, Colorado, and Adam (Angela) Nevland of Las Animas, Colorado; brother, Mark Nevland of Bottineau, North Dakota; sister, Marilyn (Gary) Suckut of Rapid City, South Dakota; and numerous grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and parents, Fred and Helen (Harding) Nevland.
