We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Park! National Night Out-August 2nd

Tuesday evenings are usually fairly quiet in Lamar during the summer. There may be some action out at the ballfields and a jogger or two who are impervious to the summer heat. But next Tuesday, August 2nd, there’s a lot happening out at Willow Creek Park that could and should bring out the whole town.
It’s National Night Out on August 2nd and the Lamar Police Department and various community partnerships such as Lamar Parks and Recreation and Great Outdoors Colorado, will be present to educate the public about the best means of keeping your home and neighborhood safe from crime. Police Chief Kyle Miller said earlier this summer, he and members of the newly formed Lamar Police Explorer’s Post will be on hand to describe the new group and sign up new members, between the ages of 14 and 21. He said he expects the first classes to begin this summer. The night is also coinciding with the Lamar Chamber of Commerce Annual Ice Cream Social which features gallons of ice cream and toppings, all free of charge to whoever shows up as long as the goodies hold out.
But wait!! There’s more!! Healthy Places and LiveWell Prowers County are offering other entertainments for the family. Starting at 5:30pm, there’s a free dinner to the first 200 people to line up for the meal; free swimming in the Lamar Pool from 7pm to 9pm; and once you’ve dried yourself off, there’s a free family movie under the stars on the big, inflatable screen in the park. Bring a blanket, lawn chair and don’t forget the bug spray.
And that’s not all! There’s a skatepark party on the east side of the park and along with games and give-aways, people can get a view of the final skatepark designs and meet Tito, from Team Pain Skateparks and learn more about the sport and what the new skatepark will have to offer.
