High Speed Pursuit Ends in Watery Crash in Lamar

The Colorado State Patrol is currently investigating a DUI crash, which occurred on the night of Saturday, March 12, 2016 at approximately 23:21 PM in Lamar, Colorado.

A Trooper with the Colorado State Patrol attempted to contact a green 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, for failing to stop at a stop sign near the intersection of Olive Street and 6th Street in Lamar. The suspect vehicle failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens and fled from the scene.  The suspect fled at a high rate of speed, disregarding multiple stop signs.  The suspect vehicle continued east onto North Canal Road, where the driver lost control and crashed into the canal.

The driver, 23 year old Jacob Montoya of Pueblo, Colorado, fled the scene on foot but was taken into custody a short time later by the Lamar Police Department. The driver sustained serious injuries from the crash and was transported to Prowers Medical Center.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol. Alcohol and drug are being considered as factors in the crash.
