The SE Colorado Two Shot Goose Hunt recently donated $3,400 to the Wildcats shooting sports team in Holly as a way of supporting youth shooting sports through SE Colorado.  The Wildcats team is comprised of local students from throughout the area.  It is part of the Colorado State High School Clay Target League which, in turn, is part of the USA High School Clay Target League (the USACTL).  Started in 2008 in Minnesota with only 3 teams and 30 student athletes, the USACTL has grown to include over 150,000 student athletes and introduces 10,000 new members each year.  It also includes 10,000 volunteer coaches and team staff.

Information from the website of the USACTL says that the League’s priorities are safety, fun, and marksmanship, in that order.  It opines that many students don’t remember their day-to-day classroom activities, but that they DO remember their interactions with teammates, bandmates and friends and that those formative experiences help provide useful life skills.  The USACTL provides unique participation opportunities, citing statistics that for nearly 40% of its participants, it is the only school-based extracurricular activity they participate in.  It provides a chance to interact with other students as they develop friendships and learn the values of teamwork, cooperation and dedication.  The League’s goal is to create the next generation of outdoor stewards.

In addition to their generation donation to the Wildcats team, the SE Colorado Two shot Goose Hunt also helps fund youth Hunter Safety courses, helping young hunters obtain their Hunter Safety license.
