Local stylists provided free back-to-school haircuts for area youth

Leticia (Letty) Rodriguez-Vargas, owner of Salon D-Letty in Lamar, and four other stylists had a busy day on Saturday, August 10. The group provided 88 free back-to-school haircuts for area pre-K through college students.  In addition to the free haircuts provided, breakfast and lunch were also served throughout the day.

I spoke with Letty’s daughter, Erika Rivera, who was one of the stylists.  She told me her mom had been providing these haircuts for 10 years and that she (Erika) had been doing it with her for the past 7 years.  The event had been announced during an interview on KLMR prior to the date.

We at The Prowers Journal want to extend a big “thank you” to the stylists and other volunteers for generously donating their time to provide such a valuable service and for so selflessly giving back to our community.   Salon D’Letty is located at 1506 S. 9th St in Lamar – their phone number is 719-688-4064 or visit salondletty.wordpress.com.
