“Night at the Museum” event July 18 a night of fun

The Prowers County Historical Society’s party honoring Commissioner Wendy Buxton-Andrade and Big Timbers Museum Curator Kathleen Scranton as they both retire lived up to the anticipation its announcement created.  It was attended by a large crowd of adults as well as children, the latter of which could be seen darting throughout the event finding clues given in the scavenger hunt game and expressing delight in the many treasures they discovered.

Colorfully decorated tables in a patriotic theme dotted the covered outdoor area of the Transportation Building, filled with event-goers eating, laughing, socializing and listening to live music provided by The Rhythm Company.  Inside the Transportation Museum were silent auction items, a display of original Western art by Dennis Knill and a dessert table featuring three beautifully-decorated cakes recognizing the two guests of honor.

The main museum was open for tours and held many of the items listed on the scavenger hunt sheet.  The weather was warm but wonderful and the sound of laughter filled the evening.  The two women were given praise and well wishes from the attendees and I overheard several conversations discussing how they have both contributed to our county and how deeply they will be missed.  Thank you, Wendy and Kathleen for your years of dedication and love for your county!
