Terry Rusher…August 7, 1953 – February 23, 2020

Terry Delane Rusher, 66 of Sugar City, Colorado, succumbed to cancer in his home surrounded by his family on February 23, 2020.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the First Christian Church of Ordway (Disciples of Christ) at 401 Lincoln Avenue, Ordway, Colorado. Per Terry’s request, there will be no visitation and a private family burial will be held in the Valley View Cemetery in Ordway, Colorado.

Terry was born on August 8, 1953 in La Junta, Colorado to Juanita (Hendrix) and Dale Rusher. He grew up on the family ranch 15 miles north of Ordway on highway 71 and attended school and graduated from Crowley County High School in 1971. He caught the eye of a college coach at a freestyle wrestling tournament in Loveland and was recruited to wrestle for the University of Colorado at Boulder. He wrestled for the Buffs for 4 years where he obtained a degree in Education which specialized in mathematics. After college, he returned home to join the family business of farming and ranching and it was at this time that he met the love of his life, Deborah Farley, who was attending Otero Junior College. They were married on November 28, 1981 in Canon City, Colorado. He was blessed to have two daughters, Meghan Renae and Mindy Lynae. Terry had a passion for agriculture. He worked beside his brother, Ed, for the past 44 years. They, with their father and numerous farm hands, worked the land on their dryland farm in Karval, CO, their irrigated farm in Sugar City, CO as well as cared for their Hereford cattle herd on the ranch north of Ordway. They also started custom harvesting for area farmers by swathing and bagging their spring and fall silage crops. Like most agricultural families, it was an all hands on deck operation. It was common to see the whole family pitching in on any given day, but especially during planting and harvesting times. Terry was proud of the fact that his wife and daughters could run most farm machinery if the need arose and he always loved coming into Debbie’s home cooked meals after hours of hard work.

Terry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dale and Juanita (Hendrix) Rusher.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Farley); daughters, Meghan (Clay) Forgey and Mindy Blasingame; granddaughters, Kashlyn and Kodie Blasingame and Nasya and Natalie Forgey; siblings, Bill (Theresa) Rusher, Neal (Kathy) Rusher, Ed (Judy) Rusher, Dayla (Rick) Elliott, and Nita (Ray) White; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sangre De Cristo Hospice and/or Crowley County 4-H Fund in care of Horber Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 431, Las Animas, Colorado, 81054.
