LCC Hosts SE Colorado Regional Science Fair

Close to 90 elementary, junior high and high school students took part in the annual Southeast Regional Science Fair, at the Lamar Community College Wellness Center, Wednesday, February 27.

Students stood by their science displays on the gym floor, explaining to regional judges, the content of their science project and what was their goal in its development. The judging portion of the event was held from 8:30 until noon at which time the participants were given a 2 ½ hour lunch break and the fair was open to the public at 2:30pm until the award presentations.  The session ended with a meeting between state fair finalists and the sponsors of the science fair.

Some of the science project categories included such topics as: Is Your Well Well?, Treat Your Horse Right, The Brain’s Café, Rainbow Fire, Copper vs. Steel, Scooter vs Scooter, Will the Grain Change the Game, Memory Muncher and The Swaying Boat.

Nineteen students made the trip from Walsh and Alta Vista Charter School was represented by 26 students in the elementary grades. Springfield sent eighteen students while Holly had eight.  Other schools represented included Plainview, Colorado Virtual Academy (COVA), Lamar Middle School, Wiley and Parkview.

Sponsors for the annual event were: Arkansas Valley Dental Society, Baca County Coroner’s Office, BJ’s Burger and Beverage, Burger King, Delta Kappa Gamma, Dr. Robert Morrow, Inez Hickey Crill Award, LCC, McDonalds, Quiznos and Wash Spott.
