Jesse Herrera, Commander for American Legion Post 71 and Legion member, Ernest Ramos, presented Prowers County Sheriff, Sam Zordel with a certificate of appreciation Thursday, afternoon, February 21st.
“This is in support of American veterans and with the gratitude of Post 71,” said Herrera in the presentation. Ever since the VFW post on Memorial Avenue in Lamar closed, the Legion members were given permission to put their weapons in safe storage at the Prowers County Sheriff’s Office. Their rifles are used in various ceremonies and by the Honor Guard during parades throughout the year. Herrera said other organizations and businesses have been supportive of the Legion as they operate without a specific designated hall or meeting place.
