Funeral Services for Holly, Colorado resident, Kent Anderson will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 21, 2018 at the Holly High School Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Holly Cemetery. Visitation for Kent will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Holly, Colorado.
Roger Kent Anderson, known to most as Kent, was born on June 7, 1944 in Long Island, Kansas to Clarence and Melva (Escue) Anderson. When Kent was 18 months old, Clarence was transferred to Holly, Colorado by Foster Lumber Company. Kent spent his childhood at 123 N. 7th in Holly and attended Holly schools. Kent played football and basketball in high school. He worked for Chuck McCormick for several years while in school. He graduated from Holly High School in 1963. After graduation he attended Lamar Community College. Then worked in a feedlot, then was drafted into the Army in 1966. He was in Vietnam for a year and worked as a medic. After the military, Kent moved to Pea Ridge, Arkansas where he met Belva Jo Thomas. The two were united in marriage in 1973. They moved to Fairview, Missouri where he had a feedstore, cow calf operation and AI Business. Kent and Jo had one son, Kyle Cassidy on July 14, 1976. They moved to Coffeyville, Kansas in 1981 and Kent owned a boot, shoe, and saddle repair. Clarence had a stroke and in 1991 Kent moved back to Holly to help his mom with his dad. K.C. finished his last two years in Holly High School. Kent married Elaine Smith Tyler September 30, 1995. After Melva entered the nursing home, Kent and Elaine purchased the home that Kent had grown up in at 123 N. 7th in Holly.
Kent manufactured saddle pads, owned a small saddle shop and worked for East Prowers Weed Control district for 20 years. After 2012 Kent and Elaine purchased a 1900 farm wagon and converted it to a chuck wagon. They enjoyed cooking with the chuckwagon for various events and cooking contests the last 8 years.
Kent had a positive impact on many people’s lives while he was here, he was not afraid to share his Christian faith to anyone who wanted to listen and shared his skills and talents with many people. Whether they wanted to know about boots and saddles, or wanted to learn how to rope, he helped any way he could. Kent passed away on December 14, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 74.
Kent is survived by his wife, Elaine Anderson of Holly, Colorado; children, Kyle (Brandi) Anderson of Eureka, Nevada, Trevor (Tracie) Tyler of Louisville, Nebraska, and Clint (Cindy) Tyler of Sawyer, Kansas; brother, Ronald (Jerri) Anderson of Maricopa, Arizona; sister, Carole Rowland of Holly, Colorado; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Melva Anderson; and sister-in-law, Norma Anderson.
