Highway 287 Road Construction Update

Work at the Railroad Crossing

American Civil Constructors, the firm which is renovating portions of North and South Main Streets through Lamar, is progressing through the third stage of the project which involves the section of work on the west side of North Main from Hickory to Sherman Streets.  It will be moving the operation onto the east side of the road to begin Phase Four.

This will entail removing the old roadway surface and once that has been completed, crews will connect the new waterline and begin installing the new storm system.

Crews are also working from Sherman Street north to the Lamar Canal Road on the west side, installing the new waterline and preparing for concrete pavement to be laid down. After this section is complete, crews will begin demolition of the old roadway so they can connect the two sections from Washington Street to the driveway of Love’s Store.

Traffic will be head-to-head on the west side from Hickory to Grant Streets with the crossover between Grant and Sherman Streets. That will shift traffic to a head-to-head pattern on the east side from Sherman Street to Lamar Canal Road.  Business access in this area will be limited to right-in and right-out turns with no parking on Main Street.

There will be two, through side streets at Hickory and Washington Streets enabling motorists to cross Main Street on the north side of the railroad tracks. Local traffic will be able to access Main Street from Maple Street on the west side but will not have through access on the east side.

Speed limits will remain reduced to 25mph for the safety of work crews which will be on site from 7am to 7pm. Questions about the Highway 287 project may be made to the hotline number at 719-821-7943 to leave a message.  All inquiries will receive a response within 24 hours.
