Chamber Picnic by the Park

Lunch is Served!

The Lamar Chamber of Commerce held their Lamar Days, Kick-Off BBQ this Friday, May 18th.  Better weather equals a better turn out and that was the situation Friday as last year’s premiere BBQ was conducted under spring skies a few degrees short of winter.

Folks sat at picnic tables on the front lawn of the chamber and enjoyed a BBQ’d brat, choice of chips, a mixed green salad courtesy of HPCHC, watermelon and a beverage. Visitors could see the newly painted mural on the rear wall of the Pocket Park in the distance.  Chamber directors served the meal while Ron Cook manned the grill.

Quakers also made the scene while KVAY radio provided the musical entertainment during their remote broadcast.  After lunch, several residents headed downtown to shop for bargains. The Lamar Rotary mascot reminded the attendees that the Ducky Dash will be run Saturday at Willow Creek Park and the city swimming pool as part of Lamar Days this weekend.  Ticket holders will see if their lucky ducky has been retrieved from the pool after it’s taken a ride down the slide.  Rotary members use the ticket sale proceeds to purchase dictionaries for area 3rd grade students each year.

Other Lamar Day traditions include the Lamar Lions Breakfast from 6-9am at the Masonic Hall on South Main Street, the 10am parade on East Olive Street, the annual car show and prizes, games and vendors all at Willow Creek Park. The Chamber decided on a celebration of the 50s for this year’s theme.
