Renovations on Main Street in Lamar should switch to the eastern lanes between Oak and Beech Streets in May, according to a spokesperson for American Civil Constructors.
Crews are completing the concrete operations in the western most lanes and preparing to move traffic in a head-to-head pattern on the western lanes. There will be no parking allowed along the storefronts at this time on the western side of Main Street.
The work will repeat the pattern of removing the old roadway surface and installing the new storm and waterline connections on the east side of Main Street. The traffic will limit business access to right-in and right-out between Oak and Beech Street. Traffic coming from the east on Olive Street must detour to 2nd Street and Maple as turns into eastbound traffic will be prohibited.
The remaining gap between the roadway and the sidewalk will be filled with colored concrete and not the original bricks that were removed. The spokesperson mentioned that the water main excavation work on the sidewalks has been scheduled to be repaired at a later date.
Speeds will still be reduced to 25mph in the work zone for construction crews and to prevent vehicle damage. Crews will be on site Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm.
