Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

On Thursday, July 27, 2017, at approximately 2:19 AM, Lamar Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of 9th Street and Maple Street in Lamar. The driver, identified as Mitcheal Shackelford, age 40 of Elkhart, Kansas, was found to have a suspended Kansas driver’s license. Shackelford was taken into custody and transported to the Prowers County Jail.
During routine inventory of the vehicle prior to tow, officers located evidence related to distribution of marijuana. Shackelford was held at the Prowers County Jail on a $50,000 bond on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and driving without a valid license.
The charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
