Minnick and Boero lead LCC to fourth place finish in Torrington

The Lamar Community College men’s golf team finished in fourth place this past weekend in Region IX play hosted by Eastern Wyoming College.
The Lopes totaled a two-day score of 637, led by Jeremy Minnick and Facundo Boero.
Minnick finished the tournament tied for sixth place with a score of 152 (80-72), just six strokes behind the first-place spot. Boero followed right behind, shooting 153 (79-74) and in seventh place. Josh Lovett finished in eleventh place with a score of 161 (79-82). Austin Matheny shot a two-day total of 171 (90-81).
The Lopes played well individually, led by Minnick who improved eight strokes from Thursday to Friday. Boero and Lovett both out-shot Minnick by one on the first day of play with 79 but couldn’t quite keep up on the following day.
As a team, the Lopes finished with a score of 637 (+69). They improved from 328 strokes on Thursday, to 309 on Friday.
Eastern Wyoming College won the tournament with a score of 592 (+24), followed by Central Wyoming College (615) and Otero Junior College (622). McCook Community College took fifth (638) and Northeastern came in sixth (687).
The team will travel to Riverton, Wyoming, this coming weekend to play its final tournament of the season, if the weather holds. Central Wyoming is scheduled to host on April 30-May 1.
