Domestic Safety Resource Center Announces
16th Annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) “Engaging New Voices”

Lamar— April 4, 2017 — This April, Domestic Safety Resource Center (DSRC) would like to invite everyone to attend this year’s SAAM kick-off at the State Capital from 12:30-2:30pm. Each year, April is designated Sexual Assault Awareness month in the United States. This year’s theme focuses on engaging new voices, to promote greater public awareness about sexual assault and to educate our communities and individuals on preventing sexual assault.


According to the National Intimate Partner and Sexual Assault Survey, 1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men in Colorado have experience sexually violent crimes in their lifetime.  Studies show that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men are sexually abused before the age of 18.  Persons with disabilities are sexually assaulted at rates more than twice the rate for persons without disability. An estimated 20-25% of woman will be victims of rape or attempted rape during college.  Over 50% of transgender individuals are survivors of sexual violence.


Domestic Safety Resource Center is a nonprofit organization providing information and tools to prevent domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and teen dating violence. Our agency covers four counties in Southeast Colorado which include Baca, Prowers, Kiowa, and Cheyenne. All our services are free and confidential. Bi-lingual services are available.
