(UPDATE) – Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Neenoshe Reservoir Drowning

UPDATED PRESS RELEASE:
On Wednesday, March 22nd, at about 7:20 pm the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department and Ambulance were paged out to a capsized boat at Neenoshe Reservoir south of Eads. Martin Vitt, of Thornton, CO and Ervin Anthony Vitt, of Cedaredge, CO were in a canoe when it overturned Wednesday afternoon. Martin Vitt was able to swim to shore, then walked back to the other side of the lake to his vehicle where he called 911.

At least 44 responders from local and multiple surrounding agencies assisted in a two hour search for the missing 67 year old Ervin Vitt, who was found in the water unresponsive by search and rescue personnel.

The Kiowa County Coroner was notified and responded to the scene. The cause of death is under investigation by the Kiowa County Coroner’s Office.

The Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the Colorado Department of Parks and Wildlife, Lamar Fire Department, Prowers County Fire Department, Prowers County Sheriff’s Office, Wiley Fire Department, Hasty/McClave Fire Department, and the Bent County OEM, as well as our Towner, Sheridan Lake, and Eads Fire Departments, and Eads Ambulance Service who assisted in the search for Mr. Vitt.
