Just how good a pumpkin carver are you. From the days of the Peanuts kids, using the back of Charlie Brown’s head as a model; young and old keep on finding new ways to decorate their pumpkins for Halloween.
The students at Alta Vista Charter School participated in the second year of their decorating contest, “Pumpkin Fun for Everyone”, while the winners in each category got to set their creation along all other entries for judging by Dorothy Buxton and Judy Turpin.
The kids had three categories in which to compete: Grace Valdez took first place out of 15 entries for, “Junie B. Jones, Toothless Wonder” in the Family pumpkin category; Chezne Woelk won first prize in the third through sixth grade entries for, “Wilbur and Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web” and the Most Unique Pumpkin Overall prize went to Giada Nieschburg and the “Sugar Skull from Day of the Dead”.
All of the contest entries were based on some form of literature or book the students had read. Tammi Martinez said that based on the participation and success of the previous two contests, students will be ready to enter their creations come the next Halloween.
