ARPA Board of Directors meeting summary from May 29, 2025

Seven Students Receive Scholarship Funding from ARPA and its Member Municipalities: In 2000, ARPA and its Member communities established a College Scholarship Program that awards a $1,400 scholarship to one high school senior in each of the high schools served by ARPA members. The Program is administered through the member municipalities of Holly, La Junta, Lamar, Las Animas, Springfield and Trinidad. The scholarships are funded equally between ARPA and its members. Congratulations to the following individuals on receiving a scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year: La Junta, Kinsley Mayo; Lamar, Blake Herrera; Lamar (McClave), Abigail Barr; Lamar (Wiley), Ebony Torrez; Las Animas, Alayna Bona; Springfield, Jacquelyn Grigat; and Trinidad (Hoehne), Zane Evangelista.

Houssin Hourieh Awarded ARPA’s Tom Pryor Award for 2024: The Tom Pryor Award is presented to an official, employee, citizen or customer of ARPA member electric utility system who displays commendable efforts in promoting the mission of public power in an ARPA member community. Houssin was presented the award for his 37+ years of devotion to the Lamar Utilities Board, for his past 13 years as an ARPA Board member, for his service as Chairman of the ARPA Operating Committee, for his generous assistance to provide mutual aid to other ARPA communities in times of need, for his valuable knowledge of electrical utility operations, and for his dedication and involvement in Public Power!

Richard Stwalley Awarded ARPA’s Gordon Robertson Award for 2024: The Gordon Robertson Award is presented to an official, employee, citizen or customer of ARPA member electric utility system who displays commendable efforts in promoting the mission of public power in an ARPA member community. Rick was presented the award for his distinguished service on the ARPA Board of Directors for over fifteen years that included serving as both President and Vice President, for his outstanding leadership in the Community as a small business owner and as a member of the Las Animas City Council, and his unwavering support of and belief that “We are ARPA”.

Summary of April 2025 Financial and Operating Statement: During the month of April, revenue from power sales was 1.2% better than budget as Member sales were 1.1% better than budget. Total cost of goods sold was right on budget, Wind generation was 9% of the power supply resources in April and ARPA credited back over 47,000 kWh to its Members for Rooftop Solar customers.

Next ARPA Meeting: The next regularly scheduled meeting of the ARPA Board of Directors is Thursday, August 28, 2025. The meeting will be held in La Junta at the Otero College Student Center, 2001 San Juan. The meeting notice and agenda will be posted on ARPA’s website (arpapower.org) under Board Meetings and will also be posted in a designated location in each of the member cities at least 24 hours in advance of the meeting. ARPA board meetings are open to the public.
