Bent County SO and CBI Investigate Homicide

(January 3, 2018—CBI—Pueblo, CO)—The Bent County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), is investigating the alleged homicide of a Las Animas man on Thursday, January 3, 2019.
Bent County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 400 block of Locust Avenue in Las Animas where an unidentified male was found shot. The 52-year-old victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Donald Jerome Busto (DOB: 03/22/1962) was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and was transported to the Bent County Detention Facility where he is currently being held without bond. (Busto’s mugshot is attached to this news release).
Circumstances surrounding the shooting incident are currently being investigated and cannot be released at this time. The victim and suspect are known to one another.
The name of the victim is being withheld until the Bent County Coroner makes family notifications.
The investigation is ongoing.
