The 2018 Lamar Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Parade of Lights at 6pm on Friday, November 30th this year and the theme will be, ‘A Candy Cane Christmas’, according to event director, Jerry Roseberry.
He said discussions are still being held for this year’s route, either north along Main Street now that highway construction leading to East Beech Street has been completed, or the relatively new route taken last year which still had entries assembled along the municipal swimming pool parking lot and passed by Strainhurst Court, traveling a mostly residential route on South 4th Street. The parade crossed East Olive and entered directly into the Enchanted Forest adjacent to the Lamar Chamber offices. Last year, instead of transporting Santa Claus, the Christmas train remained at the Enchanted Forest, providing rides before, during and after the parade while Santa made his debut in an open-top, horse-drawn wagon.
Roseberry said those are the two current options and once a determination has been announced, the information will be shared with the public. He said there were close to two dozen parade entries last year and Luv Bucks will be awarded to the top floats, based on judging just prior to the start of the parade. Official entry forms are available at the Lamar Chamber of Commerce office at 336-4379.
