William “Darrell” Emrie…July 2, 1924 – September 7, 2018

Funeral services for Las Animas, CO resident, Darrell Emrie will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Horber Funeral Chapel in Las Animas, CO. with Pastor Diane Hutson officiating. Burial will take place at 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Ft. Lyon National Cemetery in Las Animas, CO.  The family would like to invite the public to join them at the VFW Post #2411 following the committal at Ft. Lyon. Visitation for Darrell will be held Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Darrell Emrie was born July 2, 1924 to Fred Merl and Gladys Margaret (May) Emrie in Plains, Kansas. In August of 1942, Darrell enlisted in the US Navy and retired after 30 years of active duty and reserve service. Darrell married Carolyn on May 1, 1978 and extended his family with 6 children. Darrell served 20 years with Bent County Sheriff department and the Sheriff from 1975 to 1987.  He passed away at Bent County Health Care Center on September 7, 2018 at the age of 94.

Darrell is survived by his sons, Robert (Cathy) Eckert of Round Rock, TX and James Eckert of Las Animas, CO; daughters, Patti Watkins of Sherman Oaks, CA, Cindy (Mike) Colburn of Colorado Springs, CO, Sandy (Rob) Williams of Colorado Springs, CO; and 6 grandchildren Lisa, Jim, Tina, Lindsay, Jamie, Mike; many other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn (Niswonger) Emrie; sons, James Emrie, William Eckert; and granddaughter, Jaclyn Williams.
