CSP Investigates Bent County Rollover

At 2:56pm on Saturday, August 25th, the CSP responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash that occurred on Bent County Road GG between Bent County Road 6.5 and Bent County Road 7.5.  This is just west of the city of Las Animas in Bent County, CO.

The black 2000 Ford Explorer, driven by 23 year old Shawna Rich of Las Animas, CO, was headed west when it drifted toward the right road edge.  The driver then overcorrected back to the right which resulted in the vehicle rotating clockwise back across the road and off the right side.  The vehicle continued off the road, collided with barbed wire fence, and then rolled one full time, coming to rest on its wheels facing northeast.

The driver and two juvenile males stayed in the vehicle during the roll.  A third juvenile male was ejected and come to rest just off the north side road edge.  The drive and two of the juvenile males were transported to RVRMC for medical treatment. The driver did sustain serious injuries and was later flown to Parkview Hospital.  None of the occupants were restrained during the crash.  Speed is being considered as a factor in this crash.  Neither alcohol nor drugs are considered factors at this time.

The 13 and 14 year old juvenile males were both from Las Animas.  The 17 year old male was from La Junta.  Both the 17 and the 13 year old sustained moderate injuries.  The 14 year old was not injured.
