Lee Berndt has been a volunteer driver for the Prowers County Veteran Service Office for 12 years. His last day of service was July 1st, 2018. Lee has transported thousands of veterans to their medical appointments and has driven thousands of miles traveling to VA hospitals in Colorado. Lee’s devotion to helping veterans is greatly appreciated. The program continues with dedicated drivers like: Cliff Boxley, Galan Burnett, Jesse Herrera and Charles Whiting. If you’re a veteran and you’d like more information about our veteran transportation program, please call Gary Harbert at 719-336-2606.

Berndt offered his prepared remarks for the occasion. “I’ve never served in military, and with this program I’ve have had the chance to serve some men and women who have protected our freedoms and our flag.  I’m honored and proud to be able to do this and I thank all of them for their service.

From June 2006-18, I’ve spent much of my time on the road and waiting in and around hospitals and lobby’s and waiting rooms. I’ve had over 250,000 miles and 5,000 hours and can’t remember the number of vets that I have transported.  I’ve made friends and lost friends and I’m proud to have been able to help them as some of them gave a lot more.  Thanks for this certificate and thanks to the other volunteers for their service.  I hope this program continues to get the support it needs to keep going.  Be careful out there and be safe on the highways.”
