Every month, the Elks honor those students who show strong leadership, academic achievement and are involved in numerous activities. They set the example for other to follow and illustrate the promise of the young generation for the community and our nation. The students and their families are treated a free diner at the lodge and recognized for their efforts.
This month’s winners from Lamar Middle School were: Maddie Montoya and Sonny Gonzales. Maddie likes to play softball and hang out with her friends. She wants to study Chemical Engineering at CU Boulder. Sonny loves art and playing music. He wants to study both at Western State University.
The May students of the month from Lamar High School were: Jeffrey Snyder, Frida De La Paz Espinoza, Alexia Comstock and Mason Martinez. Frida is active in soccer, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading and student council. She has a 3.4 GPA and wants to become a Home Interior Designer. Jeffrey is active in track, basketball, student council and the National Honors Society. He has a 4.0 GPA. Alexia is the active in softball, basketball, soccer, student council, DECA, the National Honor Society, the Bully Prevention Committee and Phi Theta Kappa (at LCC). She plans on attending Oklahoma State University next year. Mason is a member of the National Honors Society, DECA and FBLA. He has a 3.8 GPA and plans on studying Business Administration or Criminal Justice after high school.
All of these students have shown themselves to be examples for the youth of our community. They were honored in May for their contributions. Every day the Elks are making a difference right here in Lamar. This is just one example of how we help local communities. Our motto is Elks care, Elks share.
