Lonnie Hess…September 23, 1922 – April 28, 2018

 

 

Funeral Services for Lonnie Hess will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Holly, CO with Pastor Kathy Leathers officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Cemetery in Holly, CO. Visitation for Lonnie will be held from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Holly, CO.

Lonnie Cecil Hess was born on September 23, 1922 in Bent County, CO. to Leonard H. and Mary “Ethel” (Moorehouse) Hess. Lonnie left home at the young age of 14, to work various jobs around Dodge, KS. and Spearville, KS. He married Rubie Mae Koontz in February of 1942. He went into the service in 1942 where he was stationed in North Carolina. He entered the Theatre of War at Normandy Beach. He was active in the European Theatre and Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged from the army in 1945. Following discharge, he worked at Bishop Oil Company in Dodge City, KS. Lonnie moved to Holly in 1949. He worked for a famer before he and Rubie purchased their own farm. Rubie passed away in 1972. In 1973, he married Rosallie “Sallie” Hess, where they moved to Holly in the early 1990’s. He was a longtime member of the Odd Fellows Lodge IOOF#144 in Holly. Lonnie passed away on April 28, 2018 in Tribune, KS. at the age of 95.

Lonnie is survived by his daughter, Lonetta (Bob) Brandes of Deerfield, KS; sister, Mary Norma Schulte of Spearville, KS; daughter-in-law, Connie Hess of Holly, CO; 2 step-children; 4 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; spouses, Rubie Mae Hess and Rosallie “Sallie” J. Hess; son, Dale Hess; infant sister, Welcome Hess; one step-daughter; 3 brothers, Howard, Harold and Dallas Hess.
