Lamar Days ‘Features the 50s’ for the 2018 Theme

This year’s event, May 18-19th takes local residents back in time as the celebration will be for: “Time to Shake, Rattle and Roll”.

The event, hosted by the Lamar Chamber of Commerce, will feature a Friday downtown, Kick-Off BBQ from 11am to 1pm at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot on East Beech Street, featuring brats with all the fixings. This has replaced the former breakfast gathering and has been moved to the downtown area with the purpose of showcasing bargains from local merchants.  Residents are invited to take a short stroll across Beech Street to see the progress being made on the murals lining the alleyway behind the Pocket Park and Brew Unto Others.

Quackers is Approaching

Friday night marks another year of the No-Booze Cruise with Cops and Poker Run, headquartered at the Sonic Drive-In on North Main Street. Cars and cruisers can assemble at 6:30pm with the proceeds benefitting the Lamar Fire Department Fireworks Fund.

The traditional parade will follow last year’s route due to continued road construction along Main Street. Parade entries will line up along East Olive Street in the Safeway and Big R parking lots before the 10am start, traveling to South 2nd Street, turning west onto Cedar Street and south again, onto Parkview Street where it will continue up to the Pike’s Tower and into Willow Creek Park.

It may be a tighter squeeze this year than last due to the construction underway for the new skateboard park, but there will still be plenty of room for events, highlighted by the 27th annual Rod Run Car Show, vendor’s booths, kid’s games and the Lamar Rotary Ducky Dash at the municipal pool.

Dr. Dwain Eaton and Donna Eaton have been selected by Zonta as this year’s Lamar Days Royalty. For over 50 years, the Eaton Veterinary Clinic has served the community and out-lying area, located along East Maple Street in Lamar.  More information about the Lamar Days activities is available at the Chamber at 336-4379.
