(Lamar, Colorado; April 25, 2018) Lamar Community College freshman Nate Hoey has his eye on the College National Finals Rodeo after winning the top spot and the buckle for bull riding at the Casper College Rodeo this past weekend.  Teammates Tacie Canfield and Kyeann Gordon also placed in breakaway roping and team roping.

Hoey has been on a hot-streak, taking the top spot in bull riding two rodeos in a row.  This weekend he earned enough points to bypass third place and move into second in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings.  With just one more rodeo left in the season, Hoey is working to maintain this position to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo this summer.

The top three contestants in each event after the final rodeo will qualify to compete at the College National Finals Rodeo to be held in Casper, Wyoming, in June.

The women’s team also represented well in Casper, earning two top-ten finishes.  Sophomore Tacie Canfield led the team with a fourth-place finish in the breakaway roping.  She and her teammate Kyeann Gordon earned an eighth place finish in the team roping as well.

Lopes Rodeo will finish the regular season this weekend at the University of Wyoming to be held April 26-29 in Laramie, Wyoming.
