Slow Burn on the Creek

The Lamar Fire Department took advantage of the calm winds from Wednesday, February 14th, to burn off the growth of weeds in the Willow Creek Canal, east of the park.
Although it has been a dry season, the creek still had a small supply of running water. Crews stood watch as clumps of weeds were ignited and allowed to spread along the banks of the creek. The burn is a periodic chore to make sure the waters won’t dam up from loose piles of brush and tumbleweed.
Lamar Fire Chief, Jeremy Burkhart, said, “If any residents have left over grass seed, the department would welcome future drop offs at the station. We can come back and plant the seed following a rain spell this spring to provide some protective growth.”
